I think you are onto something here, although, I do think that sometimes people struggle with what to say too -- how do we express joy or affection in words.

Mostly, though, the struggle is with how to restrain ourselves. I'm almost finished with the Jane Austen collection, and I'm amazed by how often the characters are struggling to "gain control" of their composure.
